In this new account, Excel and Word are ok. I can run these applications, create new.xls and.doc files, close them and reedit them. All is as it should be.
It was suggested in the mac forum that this might be a preferences issue and that I should locate the finder preference file and rename it. I tried this, including rebooting, but the problem still persisted. I found a new finder preference file (.finder.plist) was created. Here is some of my dialogue from that forum. RE: if it [the word and excel problem in the newly created account] has gone away rename finder preference (Not sure of name). I created a new account, ran excel and word, created a simple file with each, saved the file and was able to reopen it.
So your suggestion worked - looks like the finder preference is the problem. Okay, I went to Library / Preference and searched for Word.plist and Excel.plist. Live nettv download for mac. I renamed both by adding the word remove into the file name.
