Nice revised slimline design; miss the 'power on' light though I recently received my redesigned LaCie Porsche Mobile drive and here is my experience. Set up assistant was very easy to follow Like the slimmer design and color Miss the “power on” light that was on the older models that signaled the device was connected SN is very hard to read on the back of the drive. Was only able to get it from the box for the product registration process Usage of the included back up software tools was very intuitive and I had no issues selecting the areas that I wanted to back up. The actual back up process was quicker than expected.

Overall, definitely recommend it as a nicely designed product to help expand your storage needs. Only request would be to look at adding back the 'power on' light in the next generation and also to see about making it easier to read the SN on the back of the drive. Beautiful design, deceptive transfer rate This is a Seagate hard drive with the LaCie brand on it, it indicated on the back of the hard drive itself because Seagate brought LaCie.

Although the extremely sharp edges give stunning glare, but it also very easy to scratch other surface and it does not have the non-slip mat, which also makes the hard drive inconvenience and vulnerable. It needs to install a software before you use it the first time (included), which is a software that helps you format to one or two hard disk partition to either or both FAT32 (for Mac, Windows, and Linux) or NTFS (Windows). The transmission rate is at an average of 102MB/s for my 7200RPM sata3 desktop hard drive.

In addition, the warranty isn't accurate, which I emailed to LaCie with a proof of purchase, it responded me within 12 hours and fix the warranty date, I guess that was pretty good customer service. There aren't many options of USB 3.1 Type-C mobile hard drive in the market yet. Just for the information, the USB3.1 and Type-C are two different things, the USB3.1 is a type of transmission technology and Type-C is a type of socket introduced with 3.1. Officially, the USB Type-C is part of USB 3.1 generation, however, some brands tend to play tricks on words, which those come with the both Type-C socket but with USB2.0 or USB3.0 transmission technology, in that case, the transmission rate would not be any higher than USB2.0 or USB3.0. USB-C-USB-3.0 cable seems to have broken both my MacBook Pro USB 3.0 ports I have MacBook Pro mid-2012 with two USB 3.0 ports.

These ports worked fine until I started using this hard drive with the USB-3.0 to USB-C converter cable. The I have MacBook Pro mid-2012 with two USB 3.0 ports. These ports worked fine until I started using this hard drive with the USB-3.0 to USB-C converter cable. Then the USB ports broke one after the other. By 'broke' I mean the USB male 'plug' no longer fits all the way into the (female) port. This includes other USB cables which I have been using for years - none of them work now. I am very, very careful inserting and removing USB cables, and have had no problem for many years, until I started using this hard drive.
