Does the drive light up when you connect it? I would try pulling the usb cable about 1/3 of the way out of the macbook and see if you can get it to recognize it. I have about 6 of those every single one had issues with the cable being a real pita to get working.

If you pull the cable out a bit from the macbook, and you may have to fiddle with the end connected to the drive hopefully you can get it working. Yes the drive does light up when i connect it. In fact the hard drive is working normally on my brother's toshiba laptop, so i think the is a problem with my mac and not the hard drive. Thats great, and the previous poster (low luster) is right but something you might want to consider. You want to put a 6 plus year hard drive into a 3 year old computer? That HDD might be on its last days.
Something to think about. Also your 2011 can support sata 3 HDD's. The one you have now will work on a 2011, but performance wise its going to be faster your old one but not as fast as a newer one (sata 3 is 6Gbs transfer speed while sata 2 is rated at 3Gbs). I see that you were running Lion on your previous computer so it will work on your new one but if you don't want to upgrade to Mavericks and get maximum performance from your new computer, I suggest the following.but its not free🙂 First Order a SATA/IDE to USB adapter and a Seagate 1TB 2.5 inch hybrid drive. Check the state of the data of your old drive before you install it with the the adapter by booting it via USB. You need to shut down the computer, connect your old HDD to the adapter, plug in the USB and then hold down the power and command key. Your computer should recognise both drives.
